In October of last year, reports suggested that the Gunners were interested in signing the 22-year-old and had scheduled a meeting with his agents to see if a deal could be worked out.
Torres acknowledged the rumors were accurate and provided the most recent information on a potential move this week in an exclusive interview with 90min.
“Orlando City confirmed to me that there was contact with Arsenal, but then I left for the World Cup and I didn’t want to hear about a potential transfer at that point,” he said. “So the conversation stayed there but now that I am back with the team, we will see where the conversation goes,” Torres added.
The Uruguayan international mentioned Arsenal's interest in him and spoke about his ambition to play in Europe, listing the Premier League as one of his top choices.
This month, Arsenal is searching for striking reinforcements after Mykhailo Mudryk, a top target, signed an £88 million agreement to join Chelsea.
“I would love to play in Europe. It’s a dream I’ve had since I was a kid. At the moment I am focused on Orlando City. But La Liga or Premier League would be my targets, and that’s where the rumours are coming from. But yeah, I would absolutely love that.”
Torres is one of Orlando City's main players after helping the team win the US Open Cup in 2022.
He made a club-record transfer from Penarol to the team in January of last year, and it didn't take him long to get used to MLS, contributing nine goals and 10 assists in 33 games.
