Following his heroics for Argentina at the 2022 World Cup, where he won the Young Player of the Tournament award, he became the subject of heated transfer rumors.

Journalist from South America, Cesar Luis Merlo, revealed that negotiations between Chelsea and Benfica have broken down.

The player's £106 million release clause must be paid in full by the English powerhouses, according to the Portuguese club.

In order to circumvent financial fair play restrictions, the Blues had proposed a deal whereby they would pay the fee in three installments. They've also reportedly already submitted a bid of about £100 million, but they've insisted they won't change their current valuation.
