Thomas Frank thinks Mudryk's price-tag is 'insane' for what he has achieved in his career so far

Thomas Frank, the manager of Brentford, thinks Chelsea paid a "insane" sum of money to lure Mykhailo Mudryk to Stamford Bridge.

Mudryk's €100 million (£88 million) transfer to the Blues was completed last weekend, beating out Arsenal to the Ukrainian winger's services. He is expected to make his debut against Liverpool on Saturday.

When questioned about the transfer at his pre-game news conference before Brentford's trip to Leeds on Sunday, Frank acknowledged that it is difficult to understand how costly players are becoming these days.

'I think there's a lot of money around in the football world and especially in the Premier League,' Frank said.

'Looking from the outside, I think Mudryk is a really good player. I think €100m, that's a lot for a player that's showing great, great signs of potential to do more, but maybe that's just the price-tag these days which is insane.

Mykhailo Mudryk joined Chelsea for £88m from Shakhtar Donetsk last week

Before joining Chelsea, Mudryk had only played 44 senior appearances for Shakhtar Donetsk and had only turned 22 earlier this month.

Given his inexperience, it would seem like Chelsea is taking a chance, but Frank has acknowledged that Mudryk might end up being well worth the risk in the long term.

'What now looks like a very, very expensive player even though he's got huge potential, even with his CV I think it's a lot of money. Maybe it's worth all the money in two years' time,' Frank added.

Graham Potter would have a variety of choices at wide receiver if Chelsea were to sign Noni Madueke from PSV Eindhoven.

To compete with Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, and Hakim Ziyech for starting positions on the flanks, Chelsea has added Raheem Sterling, Joao Felix, and Mudryk after Todd Boehly became the club's new owner last year.
