The shortlist for FIFA 2023's Team of the Year has been revealed by EA Sports, and it includes English players Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka with Ballon d'Or winners Lionel Messi, Karim Benzema, and Luka Modric.
The Atlas Lions' run to the World Cup semifinals and the inclusion of Yassine Bounou and Sofyan Amrabat from Morocco round out the list of 100 players who have impressed throughout 2022. Cristiano Ronaldo was left off the list following a difficult year for the striker.
Meanwhile Argentina forward, Lionel Messi has been tipped to claim the prize following his performance with the Albiceleste at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
After scoring seven goals, second only to fellow contender Kylian Mbappe, the 35-year-old Lionel Messi was voted player of the tournament.
The French international led Real Madrid to LaLiga and Champions League victories last season with 44 goals in all competitions.
Luka Modric, a standout for Real Madrid, was crucial to Real's victory and helped Croatia place two World Cups in a row in the top three.
Four years after winning the Golden Ball in the same competition, the 37-year-old received the Bronze Ball trophy when his team finished third in Qatar.
Bukayo Saka of Arsenal was one of England's top performers at the recently finished 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The 22-year-old has been a key component of Arsenal's quest for the Premier League championship this year.
Saka is listed among the 100 after earning the Gunners' season player of the year honor twice.
