Marcos Alonso have faced several critique after his performance for Barcelona against Girona.

The Spanish international was substituted at half time after he wasn't able to interpret the formation of his manager.

Barcelona defeated Girona by a razor-thin margin to keep the lead in the La Liga standings. Despite Barcelona's lackluster performance, Xavi Hernandez was able to secure all three points thanks to a goal from Pedri in the second half.
Fans have, however, questioned Xavi's team rotation, Raphinha and Fati's lackluster performance, Barcelona's forthcoming February schedule, and the significance of the victory.

Marcus Alonso's slowness against Girona exposed him on multiple occasions. He struggled to defeat his opponent and made little to no contribution to the onslaught. For this, supporters advise that whenever Xavi chooses his squad, Alonso should be behind Balde and Alba.

On the other side, some supporters feel that given Marcus Alonso's performance on the field, Barcelona shouldn't have renewed his contract.

If you recall that the former Chelsea star agreed an extension contract with Barcelona as which means he will play until 2024.
