Man City coach, Guardiola explains reason He started Phil Foden against Chelsea

For the first time in six games, Phil Foden was recalled to the starting lineup for Man City's match against Chelsea, but Pep Guardiola has stated that there was no real justification for the move.

For tonight's match at Stamford Bridge, Kyle Walker and Foden were summoned back into the lineup, demoting Jack Grealish to the bench.

Given that Foden was healthy and had only started one of City's previous seven Premier League games, several observers began to question Guardiola's decision to leave him out of the starting lineups.

But when questioned about the adjustments he made for the crucial match with Chelsea, Guardiola stated there was no specific reason and that he simply wanted to incorporate everyone.

'Before every game you guys ask me the reason why, sometimes is not a specific reason why,' Guardiola told Sky Sports. 'I want to rotate the team, get everyone involved.

'Sometimes I pay attention for the opponent, sometimes for the tactics or the quality of the players we have, I don't care for the tactics today.

'There's not one specific reason I decide. Since I arrived, I'm not a guy who plays 11 players every time. Because you cannot handle the locker room.

'When the players don't play they have to have the feeling they can play at a certain level. It's not nice.'
