Tuesday's Premier League match between Newcastle and Arsenal featured Joe Willock for 87 minutes before he took to social media to address his former team.
Even though Joe Willock assisted Newcastle in stealing a point from Arsenal on Tuesday, he still has a soft spot for the Gunners.
The best defense in the Premier League held up against the league leaders as the Magpies and Arsenal fought to a 0-0 draw. Before being replaced by Allan Saint-Maximin, Willock played 87 minutes of the scoreless game against his former team.
As a result, Newcastle maintained their position in third place with 35 points, nine points behind Arsenal, who also have a game remaining. A post-game rant from Mikel Arteta was prompted by the attritional nature of the match, which was frequently interrupted by fouls and frequently featured referee Andy Madley as the center of attention.
Willock did not experience the tumultuous nature of the game because he graciously thanked his former club on Instagram.
Writing on his Instagram page, he captioned: “Happy new year. This year we want to bring history back to Newcastle. Good point to start the year @nufc. good luck for the season @arsenal.”
Willock joined Arsenal when he was four years old and progressed through the team's academy before making 78 first-team appearances. In February 2021, he signed a loan agreement with Newcastle, and in his first 14 games for Steve Bruce's team, he scored eight goals.
Following his wildly successful short-term assignment, St. Magpies hired him permanently for £25 million.
