Cristiano Ronaldo, a forward for Manchester United, is expected to lead the Al Nassr-Al Hilal combined team in Thursday's friendly against Paris Saint-Germain.
After a contentious interview with Piers Morgan, the Portuguese star left Old Trafford in November. This week, he will play his first Saudi Arabian match against PSG at the King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh with an All-Star XI that includes Al-Nassr and Al Hilal players.
Al-Nassr manager Rudi Garcia recently announced that the 37-year-old player would participate in the friendly before making his Saudi Pro League debut on Sunday against Ettifaq.
Since then, it has come to light that Ronaldo will also be in charge of the All-Star XI when they play PSG. Lionel Messi, his long-time rival, will be up against the former Real Madrid attacker.
Turki Al-Sheikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia's General Authority for Entertainment, confirmed the information on Twitter. He gave the armband to the five-time Ballon d'Or winner in a video that he posted online.
Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr at the end of December, but he hasn't played a game for the team yet. After smashing the phone of an Everton fan in April, he has been suspended for the Saudi Arabian team's next two matches.
The Portugal captain left United following an explosive interview with Morgan prior to the World Cup in Qatar. The forward criticized his former manager, Erik ten Hag, the club's owners, and a number of his former teammates in the interview.
He had two spells in Manchester, during which he scored 145 goals and had 64 assists. He went out of Old Trafford. He also won three Premier League titles and the Champions League.
