Fans and players were perplexed by Michael Olise's subdued celebration against Manchester United, but his old teammates have now explained why he did it.
Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise struck an unstoppable free-kick late on for his side

The Crystal Palace winger scored a last-second free kick at Selhurst Park to give his team a point against the Red Devils in the Premier League.

Despite the spectacular strike, Olise gave a subdued celebration, giving the impression that he was not overly pleased with his own performance. The reasons for this have since been revealed.

The rest of his teammates rushed to applaud him as Olise appeared unimpressed with his performance.
Tom McIntyre, a defender and Olise's former Reading teammate, opened up to The Athletic about the winger's celebration preference.

Tom McIntyre suggested that Olise enjoyed being 'different and cool' when celebrating.

'We'd say he's a bit weird sometimes because when he scored goals, he sometimes wouldn't celebrate,' Morrison explained.

'We'd be like, 'Mike, you've just scored an important goal and you're just walking back?'. What's he doing? Then he'd play two-touch with the manager (Paunovic) in the gym, he'd win a point in that, and he'd be shouting and celebrating, but on a Saturday, he'd score a goal in front of the home end and just stand there.'

Seven goals were scored by the France U-21 winger in three seasons at the Madejski Stadium, earning him an £8.37 million transfer to Palace in the summer of 2021.

He added: 'We never really worked out why. He could never give us an answer but he's just different; a special player.'
