During Saturday's home loss to Southampton, Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta suffered a head injury.

Sekou Mara struck Azpilicueta in the face as the Saints substitute attempted an overhead kick, and the player lay motionless on the field.
Players from both teams and medical personnel flocked to the 33-year-old defender at Stamford Bridge as he appeared shaken.

Azpilicueta was given oxygen treatment for a while before being carried off on a stretcher, but he was still conscious as he did so.

The Spanish defender has taken to his official social media handle to share snap of himself as continued recovery at the hospital.

According to him, he's currently doing fine and added that he can't wait to be back on pitch to help his team.

Azpilicueta wrote: "Hi everyone!
Thank you all for your love and messages of support! My family and I would like to thank everyone who has been looking after me since yesterday’s incident…"

The Blues suffered their fifth loss of 2023 as a result of James Ward-Prowse's free kick in first-half stoppage time, and with 15 games left in the regular season, they are now 10 points off the top four in the Premier League.

He added:"From the @ChelseaFC
medical team, to teammates and opponents, to St Mary’s and Cleveland Hospital and all staff members and doctors: a massive thank you from the bottom of my heart. Now, time to recover and I will see you soon on the pitch"
