Christian Atsu hasn't been located as of yet, but it is known that one of the tall structures where he and other players were staying was destroyed by the earthquake.
Atsu is reportedly one of the people still missing as a search and rescue operation is launched. After the earthquake, several members of his new team needed to be rescued.
Taner Savut, the sporting director for Hatalyspor, is reportedly also trapped inside the structure as rescue efforts continue.
According to reports, Christian Atsu was among the nine other athletes and two officials who were on the ninth floor of the demolished structure.
The Ghanaian international joined Al-Raed in Saudi Arabia after 100 matches for Newcastle United.
The ex-Premier League player relocated to Turkey in the summer and is now playing for Hatalyspor of the Turkish Super Lig.
Christian Atsu's first club goal, which helped the team win all three points at the end, came hours before the earthquake.
He has made 65 appearances for the Black Stars of Ghana, and Ghanaians, including Ghana President Nana Kofi Ado, have joined in prayers for the former Newcastle star as the search operation continues.
