What Eddie Howe said to Joelinton after taking him off for Newcastle United yesterday has been revealed by Jamie Carragher to Sky Sports.
In their matchup with Liverpool at St. James' Park, Newcastle got off to a terrible start as they fell two goals behind inside the first 20 minutes.
Then, with Mohamed Salah poised to break in on goal, the Magpies were down to ten men after Nick Pope handled the ball outside the box.
Now, Howe's team will play Sunday's League Cup final against Manchester United without their top goalkeeper.
Joelinton's physical condition is also a cause for concern after the midfielder was substituted yesterday at the 70-minute mark.
Before Howe substituted Matt Ritchie for the briefly downed Brazilian, the player appeared desperate to remain on the field.
Before Pope, 26, went down seemingly holding his hamstring, Howe would have been aware that he had already lost a crucial player.
Joelinton appeared disappointed as he made his way to the Newcastle bench, showing that he didn't want to leave the field. And according to Carragher, Howe informed the midfielder that he was making the choice for the midfielder's best interests.
Carragher revealed on Sky Sports what Howe said to Joelinton yesterday as he exited the field at St James' Park.
“You can see what Eddie Howe is saying to him there, I’m doing it for you, I’m doing it for you,” Carragher said.
