Even though there were only three defenders in the starting lineup, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Karim Benzema, and Erling Haaland were all chosen due to their exceptional offensive displays.

Thibaut Courtois accepts the award in front of Achraf Hakimi, Joao Cancelo, and Virgil van Dijk after a standout season with Real Madrid.

Behind Messi, Mbappe, Benzema, and Haaland is a three-player midfield consisting of Kevin De Bruyne, Casemiro, and Luka Modric.

Messi is the only representative of Argentina in the starting Eleven despite the country winning the World Cup in late 2022.

But after Real Madrid won the Champions League, Courtois, Modric, Casemiro (who later won the Carabao Cup with Manchester United), and Benzema all received new eligibility.

In addition to Haaland's inclusion due to his prolific goal-scoring with both Borussia Dortmund and City, Cancelo and De Bruyne were also included because Man City had won the Premier League.
