Martin Odegaard reveals who convinced him to join Arsenal from Real Madrid

Martin Odegaard, the captain of Arsenal, has admitted that Mikel Arteta, the club's manager, persuaded him to join the club. 

If you recall that the Norway international agreed to make his initial loan move permanent last year. 

According to Martin Odegaard, he was convinced by Mikel Arteta project at Arsenal despite was occupying the 15th spot in the Premier League standings.

Odegaard first transferred to Arsenal from Real Madrid in January 2021 on a loan agreement.

 The following summer, the Gunners made the transfer permanent for £30 million plus bonuses.


The permanent captain of Arsenal since last summer, the Norwegian international who joined from Los Blancos, has been a major contributor to the club's success.


“I spoke to Mikel Arteta on a Zoom call and he told me all about the project,” Odegaard wrote in The Players’ Tribune.

“At the time, Arsenal weren’t doing well. They were way down like 15th in the [Premier League] table, but that meeting… Honestly, I challenge anyone to come away from a meeting with Arteta and not believe everything he tells you.

“He’s next level. It is hard to explain. He is passionate, he is intense and sometimes, yeah, he is a bit crazy… but when he speaks, you understand that whatever he says will happen, will happen.”

Martin Odegaard will be leading the Arsenal team out of the dug it when they host Brentford at the Emirates stadium on Saturday. 

The Gunners are five points clear at the top of the Premier League table and could extend to eight ahead of second placed Manchester City who host Aston Villa on Sunday.
