Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, has explained why the team let players like Marquinhos, Albert Sambi Lokonga, and Cedric Soares leave the Emirates Stadium during the January transfer window.
Leandro Trossard, Jakub Kiwior, and Jorginho joined Arsenal in the January window.
While Albert Sambi Lokonga, Marquinhos, and Soares were allowed to leave Arteta's team on loan in order to get more playing time.
Mikel Arteta has now asserts that Arsenal granted the departures of Lokonga, Marquinhos, and Soares due to the players' need for more playing time.
When asked to rate Arsenal's business during the January window, Arteta said the following during his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday's Premier League match against Everton:
“A really tricky one but in the end a really positive one.
“We had three main key areas of positions we wanted to improve and we have done it. With Leo [Trossard], Jakub, and Jorg [Jorginho].”
The Spanish boss was named the manager of the month for January. It's the third time that Mikel Arteta will scoop the Premier League manager of the month award.
Arteta revealed that Sambi who joined Crystal Palace needed more game in order to show off his potential.
He added: “As well, we have offloaded the squad with three players, Sambi needed time and games to develop the talent that he has and I think in Palace, we have found the right club with the right coaching staff as well, so I believe that will work out.
On Marquinhos joining Norwich on loan, he said: “Marquinhos needed minutes. It’s going to be a really tough but really good test for him to play in the league in a great club. "
Arsenal also granted the loan move of Cedric Soares to London rival, Fulham on deadline day.
The former Southampton full back was, signed by Mikel Arteta as free agent years, ago from the The Saints.
Soares fell behind in the right back position which made him reunited with his former manager Marco Silva at the Craven Cottage.
Arteta said: “With Cedric, he was demanding minutes and it was difficult to promise that to him. He is a player we all loved, it was a difficult decision.”
