When the Gunners play Everton on Wednesday night at the Emirates Stadium, Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, has hinted that Thomas Partey will once more start on the substitutes' bench.

Due to a muscle injury, the 29-year-old was unable to participate in both the victory over Aston Villa and the loss to Manchester City.

The weekend's 1-0 victory over Leicester City saw Partey make his return to the matchday squad as he works to regain match fitness. He came off the bench in the 84th minute.

Jorginho, who joined north London from Chelsea for £12 million during the January transfer window, has filled the void in midfield, making the absence of the Ghanaian international easier.

Partey has proven to be an essential member of Arteta's team this season in the holding midfield position, allowing Granit Xhaka and Martin Odegaard to play a bigger role in attacking phases. As Partey continues to improve his fitness following a recent injury, Jorginho has performed admirably in the Ghanaian's absence and is expected to start in midfield once more.

Arteta provided an update on Partey's health ahead of tomorrow night's match against the Toffees and suggested that he might start from the bench once more. The manager of Arsenal said:  "He hasn't trained much.

"He only had one session and he will train again today. He was out for a few weeks and he needs to get the rhythm back."

Since suffering from a thigh injury in August, Partey has only missed five Premier League games this season. He was not included in the squad for matches against Fulham, Villa, and Manchester United.

The Gunners are facing a busy fixture schedule once again with the return of Europa League action quickly approaching. Arteta might not want to risk one of his key players as more demands are placed on his team as the season progresses.
