To attend the 36th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union (AU), President Buhari will depart Abuja on Thursday, February 16 for Addis Abeba, Ethiopia.

The President will travel with some Ministers and other senior government officials, according to a statement issued by Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity.

At the AU Summit, which has as its theme "Acceleration of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Implementation," he said the President would take part in three High-Level meetings on peace and security, climate change, and the political situation in some West African countries.

The first, according to Shehu, will be the Heads of State and Government meeting of the Peace and Security Council (PSC) to discuss the situation in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (AUPSC High Level AU). This meeting will be presided over by the President of South Africa in his capacity as the Council's Chair for the month of February.

The meeting of the Committee of the Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC), which is currently presided over by the President of the Niger Republic, will be the second, according to the presidential spokesman.

President Buhari will also attend an extraordinary summit of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS, he continued, which will take place in conjunction with the AU's annual meetings.

At the Summit's opening session in Addis Abeba, which brings together leaders from the AU member countries as well as a number of non-AU countries and international organizations accredited to the AU, President Buhari will make remarks and present his National Statement.

On February 20, according to Shehu, the President will return to Abuja.
