Sergio Ramos, a defender for Paris Saint-Germain, announced his retirement from international football on Twitter tonight.
According to PSG defender, He claimed that Spain head coach Luis de la Fuenta had called him to let him know that he would not be a part of his future plans.
The 36-year-old made 180 appearances for La Roja, which is the record, over the course of a 17-year career that saw him win two European Championships and the 2010 World Cup.
The former Real Madrid player notes in his statement that, rather than being a matter of age, he would have preferred to end his illustrious time with Spain on a better note, either due to a personal choice or because his performances did not merit a call-up.
Ramos will now focus on his obligations with Paris Saint-Germain, where his contract expires at the conclusion of the current campaign. After having his first season cut short by injury, the veteran has been a regular for Christophe Galtier's team this year.
