Senegal defeats Algeria on penalties to win the CHAN tournament, becoming the first sub-Saharan nation to do so.

In the competition's championship match, the Teranga Lions of Senegal defeated the Foxes of Algeria in 2022 CAF Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).

The Senegalese made history by being the first country from West Africa to win the prestigious trophy since its inception in 2009.

The game started off quickly for both teams, with excellent passes from both sets of players, making it a very contested match.

The host nation, Algeria, started out a little stronger than Senegal and created a few half-chances, but Senegal's defense held strong.

The opening 45 minutes of the game ended in an entertaining goalless draw despite Senegal having opportunities of their own in the first half.

Senegal played really well in the second half, giving the host nation little room to maneuver defensively and putting their bodies on the line to fend off any home country attacks.

Both teams remained united throughout extra time as they advanced to the penalty shootouts, and the game ended in an exciting end-to-end 0-0 stalemate throughout normal play.

Sy, the goalkeeper for Senegal, thought he had stopped the first penalty kick from Algeria after Senegal had converted the first one, but the referee called for a review after he stepped off the line.

Senegal missed the fourth penalty, but Aymen Mahious was unable to convert the fifth because the Senegalese goalkeeper blocked his poor attempt, ending the game abruptly.

Senegal made five out of six kicks, and after Algeria missed the go-ahead conversion, the Local Lions of Teranga from Senegal were presented with the title.

Senegal only allowed one goal all season, while Algeria breezed through the competition without giving up a single goal from open play.
