Salernitana, a struggling Serie A team, has fired Davide Nicola as coach a second time in a month.
His dismissal was formally announced by Salernitana in a statement that was posted on their website. Salernitana is only four points above the relegation zone.
"U.S. Salernitana 1919 announces that it has relieved Mr. Davide Nicola of his duties as First Team coach."
After an 8-2 thrashing against Atalanta Bergamo, Salernitana announced in mid-January that Nicola was no longer in charge. Owner Danilo Iervolino later changed his mind and granted the coach a reprieve after he unexpectedly kept the team in the league last season.
The team decided to fire him after their Monday 1–0 loss to Verona.
Paulo Sousa was seen receiving training earlier in the day, as evidenced by the swiftly shared photos by Salernitana.
