In order to achieve the best possible balance going into the second half of the season, the Blues made every effort to reorganize their roster. The January transfer deadline day for Chelsea was, at best, chaotic as a result. Jorginho confirmed his departure by signing a £12 million with Arsenal, a rival team.

Enzo Fernandez, a 21-year-old midfielder with a great deal of capacity and potential for the future who impeccably fits the club's new way of thinking, was the Blues' last objective toward the window's end. Additionally, there was promise of a significant team addition.

The Blues, on the other hand, will have to make difficult choices as each new deadline approaches. This new deadline applies to them because their Champions League team's first round of 16 matchup against Borussia Dortmund is only a few weeks away.

In its current squad registration regulations, UEFA states: As of the knockout round play-offs, a club can sign no more than three new eligible players for the remaining matches in the current competition. This registration must be completed by midnight CET on February 2, 2023. This deadline cannot be extended in any way.

"Any or all of the players from the above quota of three may have been fielded for another club in the qualifying phase, play-offs or group stage of the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League or UEFA Europa Conference League."

The current Chelsea Champions League team is as follows: Marcus Betinelli, Edouard Mendy, and Kepa Arrizabalaga; Trevoh Chalobah, Ben Chilwell, Reece James, Kalidou Koulibaly, Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta, Marc Cucurella, and Wesley Fofana; Jorginho*, Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount, Denis Zakaria, Hakim Ziyech, Conor Gallagher, Carney Chukwuemeka, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Kai Havertz are on the B list. Ruben Loftus-Cheek, N'Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Christian Pulisic, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are not on the B list. Armando Broja, Lewis Hall, and Charlie Webster The rules allow players like Fernandez and Joao Felix to join the club despite having played in previous rounds. However, only three new players can be added to the roster. This suggests that some of the many new players added in January may not be able to play.

Since there must always be 25 players on the team, there will need to be a cut. The removal of Jorginho after he left makes things a little easier and brings the total to 23, but one player from the list above will still have to miss out.

As a consequence of this, Graham Potter is confronted with a significant dilemma regarding which players he will have to select from his new signings and which players will remain on his current team.
