Late in the game, when the French attacker and Oleksandr Zinchenko collided, tempers exploded.
In response, many of Zinchenko's teammates tackled Maupay, who had just dragged the Gunners' left-back to the ground.
Given the fiery reputation of the Swiss midfielder, many were anticipating a brawl when Xhaka led the charge up to him.
He shocked everyone by making an effort to cool the opponent down before hauling a furious Zinchenko out of the fray.
Both the Ukrainian and Maupay received yellow cards as a result of their behavior, and manager Mikel Arteta is said to have pushed his irate star to avoid a second altercation at full-time.

Another said: “Xhaka has changed. If Maupay did that to him last season he’s getting hit with a swift right hook.”
A third reacted: “Xhaka has grown up… two seasons ago he’d have headbutted Maupay.”
One Arsenal supporter jokingly suggested they miss his previous style: “The old Xhaka would’ve thrown Maupay into the ground. I don’t know if I’m sad or proud to witness this.”
