Alex Iwobi, a midfielder for the Super Eagles, has discussed his experiences at Arsenal and his decision to leave the team.
The Nigerian international claimed that after receiving criticism from Arsenal supporters, his family was crucial in helping him maintain his sanity.
Iwobi, a graduate of the Arsenal academy, signed a five-year, £35 million contract with Everton in the summer of 2019.
“When I played for Arsenal, a lot of people questioned my abilities. The criticisms were just too much,” the midfielder, who is now a regular at Everton, told Premier League Productions.
Iwobi praised his father in particular for always being there for him and helping him understand the difficulties of playing for a major organization like Arsenal.
“But I had my family who stood behind me. My dad kept telling me that I am at such a big club for a reason and I should keep working hard. He was instrumental in me overcoming such harsh feedback,” he added.
