Brighton Hove Albion 1-0 Crystal Palace: Solly March strike sealed three points for Seagulls as Palace struggle continues

Brighton & Hove Albion defeated Crystal Palace at home for the first time as the Seagulls since December 2018, and Solly March's goal made sure that their opponents would be the only Premier League side without a victory in 2023.

Brighton began on the back foot against a Crystal Palace team that had gone three games without recording a shot on target, despite a streak of four victories in their past five at home. Wilfried Zaha, looking to score for the third straight game against Brighton, dribbled into the box, hit low, and forced Jason Steele into a low save. The Eagles wasted no time in attempting to correct their offensive problems. With their renewed offensive vigor, Palace applied pressure, and Odsonne Édouard almost missed a cross from Nathaniel Clyne.

Solly March scored his second goal in as many matches against the Eagles as Brighton quickly took control of the situation and shown their potential for success in Europe. Kaoru Mitoma sent the ball through for March, who controlled it and shot into the bottom corner.

Pervis Estupián made sure Eagles debutant Joe Whitworth was on guard with a drilled shot that the goalkeeper blocked with his feet as Brighton increased the pressure after the half, sensing a chance to win the Premier League versus Palace for the first time since March 2019. A brief power outage near the Amex temporarily stopped play as the Seagulls gained momentum, but the hosts maintained their lead when Whitworth parried Alexis Mac Allister's header.

With their first clean sheet versus Palace in 10 Premier League games, Brighton skillfully controlled the game in the final stages and closed the gap on the top four teams by six points. The Eagles' top-flight decline is continuing as the Seagulls rise, as Patrick Vieira's team has gone 11 games without a victory, which is the longest such streak since the 2015–16 season.
