"I am talking to Chelsea to keep Mason Mount" - Graham Potter gives update on 24-year-old future

Mason Mount and his boyhood club are reportedly having "complicated" discussions, but Graham Potter has stated that he wants to keep the talented midfielder at Chelsea.
When he was six years old, the 24-year-old Stamford Bridge player made his debut, making his way into the first team in August 2019. In 2022, the club named the player of the season for the second time in a row.

The Blues' contract with Mount, which is set to expire in the summer of 2024, has not yet been extended, despite this.

The academy product and club hierarchy are still at odds as contract demands are being discussed.

Although Mount's manager declined to provide many details about how these negotiations are going, he was quick to express his gratitude for his player's contribution to the team.

The agreement is "between the club and Mason," Potter stated in his pre-match press conference before Chelsea's trip to Leicester on Saturday.

"I've spoken to him several times about his situation, football, and life generally,' Potter went on.

'My feelings for Mason are clear. He's a fantastic person firstly, but sometimes these things happen.

'They're complicated, and it's best I speak little about it, let them get on with it in deciding what is right for both parties.'

When asked if Mount is part of his plans for next season, Potter gave an emphatic 'yes'.
Mason Mount is expected to be back in the Chelsea team this weekend when they face Leicester City.

The English international has missed the last two games of Chelsea due to an injury, but he was spotted in the training ground this week.

The Blues manager added: 'But I'm not naive, and I know it's an important time for him and an important contract.

'These things have to be right for him, and his family, and it's important he makes a decision on that basis.'
