Meta is planning to create a Twitter-like application.
Tech juggernaut Meta has launched plans to challenge Twitter's dominance.
An app with features resembling those of the microblogging website is currently being developed, according to the parent company of several social media platforms.
The aforementioned application would be powered by Mastodon, a service similar to Twitter that was introduced in 2016.
The move coincides with Meta's efforts to keep users on its social networks, particularly in light of the user base's aging and the emergence of fierce competition like TikTok.
According to a February 2022 Forbes article, Facebook, one of Meta's platforms, lost about 500,000 daily users in the final three months of 2021.
If Meta's app is a success, Elon Musk's recent acquisition of Twitter, Twitter, will face competition.
Musk used mass layoffs to cut operating costs after investing about $43 billion in the platform last year. He has offended many with his opposition to censorship, among other things, and as a result, the business no longer receives funding from advertisers.
