On November 24, 2021, during Napoli's 3-2 loss to Inter Milan, Osimhen, 23, shattered his eye socket.
He sustained several facial fractures as a result of a head collision with Milan Skriniar at the San Siro.
After the horrific incident, he had 18 metal screws and six plaques placed to stabilize his facial features.
On January 17, Osimhen made his comeback for Napoli's 2-0 Serie A victory against Bologna while donning a carbon fiber mask.
While he first disliked the mask, he has gradually become used to the safety device.
The Nigerian wore the mask during the 2022–23 campaign.
