Casillas, a former goalkeeper for Real Madrid, has questioned FIFA's selection of Lionel Messi as The Best winner.

Many people expected Lionel Messi to be named the men's best player for 2022 at this ceremony.

The FIFA The Best Awards, given to the best players of the previous season, were presented on Monday in France.
With 52 points, Messi won the vote, beating Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, who came in second with 44 points, and Kylian Mbappé, who came in third with 34 points.

The retired footballer expressed his disapproval of the FIFA award on social media.

“There are things I don’t understand about these football awards, "the former Real Madrid star wrote. 

On the night, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti missed out in the men's coach of year despite winning the La Liga and Champions League last term.

Argentina's head coach Lionel Scaloni was named the men's coach of 2022 after he guided the Albiceleste to win FIFA 2022 World Cup.
