US congratulates Bola Tinubu on his win at the 2023 Presidential election

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, of the APC, has received congratulations from the United States for his victory in the 2023 presidential election.

On Wednesday, March 1, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Bola Tinubu, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the winner of the presidential election that took place on February 25. Tinubu defeated the primary opposition candidates, Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Peter Obi of the LP.

 Ned Price, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, issued the following statement: "The United States congratulates the people of Nigeria, president-elect Tinubu and all the political leaders.” 

“This competitive election represents a new period for Nigerian politics and democracy.” 

Price also acknowledged that some Nigerians were dissatisfied with the results' validity.

“We understand that many Nigerians and some of the parties have expressed frustration about the manner in which the process was conducted,” he said.

“Nigerians are clearly within their rights to have such concerns and should have high expectations for their electoral process.”

“We call on all parties to refrain from violence or inflammatory rhetoric at this critical time,” Price added.
