Folarin Balogun, an Arsenal player, wrote a mysterious statement on social media after being left out of Gareth Southgate's most recent team for England.
The 21-year-old has excelled while playing for Reims in Ligue 1 on loan from Arsenal, where he has 16 goals in 26 league appearances.
Since 1961, Balogun is the youngest player in Ligue 1 history with at least 16 goals in his rookie year.
He has also excelled for England's Under-21 team, scoring seven goals in 13 games and giving himself a remote chance to get his first senior call-up.
Balogun was born in New York City, moved to London as a child, and then immigrated to England when he was two.
His parents were both born in Nigeria and are Nigerians.
He sent a mysterious remark on Instagram after the news after his exclusion.
As Balogun was born in New York and is thus qualified to play for the American national team, England may now run the danger of losing him to the United States. He was born to Nigerian parents, therefore he could play for that country as well.
He said: “In life go where you’re appreciated. Be easy.”
