The two suspects, both 21 years old, accepted their wrongdoing but said they had no idea they were breaking into the house of a French defender who had just won the 2018 World Cup.
They said they were only able to make it inside one room of the home before attempting to get away as a caretaker approached.
After failing to take jewelry and clothing, they said to the court, they fell from a veranda via which they had accessed the property.
They went on to state that "money problems" were the reason for their actions and that a third guy had located the target of the attempted crime.
Yasmina Belmokhtar, Kimpembe's attorney, called the conduct "a invasion of privacy" and asked for a symbolic settlement of one euro ($1) in damages.
According to the court, the men might have their original jail terms of 10 and 8 months each lowered and serve them at home while wearing electronic tags.
