Rio Ferdinand has revealed that while they were at Manchester United and Chelsea, he and Frank Lampard stopped talking because they were "focused on winning trophies."
At West Ham, the former teammates initially developed a bond, but communication ceased when medals were on the line.
Under Harry Redknapp's guidance, Ferdinand, Lampard, and Joe Cole made their professional debuts at West Ham United in 1999 and became permanent members of the first team.
'It wasn't a conversation or a fallout, he was focused on winning as many trophies as possible and I was as well. It happens. Some relationships stay the same,' he continued.
'Even with Joel, we have become close now we have retired because we are not fighting over anything.'
The 44-year-old former Manchester United defender won six Premier League and Champions League titles.
Meanwhile, the 44-year-old Blues legend played 648 games for Chelsea, winning three Premier League titles and the Champions League.
