Jeremie Frimpong, a target for Manchester United, is unable to defend, according to Holland manager Ronald Koeman, hence he cannot be invited to the national squad.

The player was criticized by Koeman, who said that he lacked the ability to track back and assist on defense.

Despite the former Celtic full-back being a crucial member of Bayer Leverkusen, the former Barcelona manager passed over the player for their Euro 2024 qualifying matches.

The 22-year-old, who traveled to the World Cup alongside Louis van Gaal, has also often been linked with a transfer to Old Trafford.

Yet Koeman, who succeeded van Gaal as manager of the Netherlands, has serious reservations about his defensive prowess.

“No Frimpong? This is because of the system that we play in,” Koeman told reporters during his press conference ahead of their Euro 2024 qualifying matches.

“He plays almost as a right winger. My right back should be able to defend well in the first place and I have my doubts about that.”
