The Gunners' attempt to win the championship at the conclusion of the season took a major hit as they gave up a two-goal lead during the London derby to settle for a 2-2 draw.
At the London Stadium, Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard had already given the league leaders the lead.
Saida Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen led the hosts' comeback, which denied the north Londoners what should have been an easy victory.
In response to the outcome, a dissatisfied Mikel Arteta questioned his charges' attitude and had no pleasant words for them.
"We need to have that ruthless mindset to go and kill a team. When a team is there for the taking, we have to kill the team," Arteta said via Sky Sports.
After their defeat against the Hammers, Xhaka, however, openly disagreed with Arteta's attitude idea.
The midfielder urged unity as the season entered its final stretch, claiming that the players' mindset had nothing to do with Arsenal's inability to end the game.
“It is not about the mentality. For sure, it’s not," The Mirror quoted Xhaka saying.
"If something is not going well, it is easy to show the finger to someone else. Now, it is time to be together because there are seven games to go," he added.
