Vincent Kompany and his Burnley side defeat Blackburn to lift EFL Championship

Following a 1-0 victory against playoff-bound Blackburn on Tuesday night at Ewood Park, Burnley has won the EFL Championship.

Although Vincent Kompany's team had already been granted promotion to the Premier League for the next season, they had been holding out for the necessary number of victories to claim the title of division champions.

The team has had a fantastic season, shattering any preconceived notions that Manchester City veteran Kompany could have trouble in his first management position in England with Tuesday's away triumph.

The goal that would ultimately win the game was scored by substitute Manuel Benson in the 66th minute, cutting inside from the right flank.

Blackburn attempted to ruin the celebration by launching a bombardment of late crosses into the Burnley penalty area, but they were unable to really trouble the tenacious league-leading defense.
