Manchester City win EPL title for third successive season after Arsenal lose to Nottingham

Following Arsenal's defeat against Nottingham Forest, Manchester City has won the Premier League for the third straight year.

After being defeated 1-0 on Saturday, the Gunners, who had been in first place for the bulk of the season, are now four points behind City with only one game remaining.

In five of the last six seasons, Pep Guardiola's team has won the championship.

Due to the upcoming FA Cup and Champions League finals, they also have a chance to win the Triple Crown.

Only Manchester United, in 1998–1999, has before accomplished that feat; City will face their derby rivals at Wembley on June 3 before taking on Inter Milan in Istanbul a week later, when they will attempt to win their first Champions League competition.

Despite having one less game under their belt than Mikel Arteta's leaders at the time, City, who won the title for the eighth time in club history, had fallen eight points behind Arsenal on April 7.

Only four times in the history of the Premier League has a club finished with at least 28 games remaining and yet failed to win the championship.

Only one club has ever had 69 points with 10 games left and failed to win the championship. That squad was Arsenal. They ended with 97 points in the 2018–19 season, one point behind City.

But with three games left, City has won 11 straight league games, dropping only two points from a potential 42 to pass Arsenal and secure the championship.
