Arsenal defeated Newcastle 2-0 at St. James' Park to maintain their Premier League championship aspirations.
The Gunners have reduced the gap to one points ahead of Manchester City who are leading courtesy their 2-1 win over Leeds on Saturday. 

Following Martin Odegaard's spectacular goal, Fabian Schar scored an own goal to give the Gunners a critical three points.

The game got off to a stronger start for the hosts, who twice struck the woodwork but were unable to score.

Few minutes later, Newcastle United got a possible handball call waved off by the VAR after Arsenal's Kiwior was lucky following a shout that the ball touched his hand.

In the second half, both teams went for it but Newcastle United couldn't take their chances. 

Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale produced some saves from Alexander Isak and  Fabian Schar headers from close range. 

The second goal from Arsenal came when Gabriel Martinelli cross deflected from the foot of Schar into the net.
