After 12 years at United, Phil Jones is finally planning to quit, according to Fabrizio Romano.

One of five players with unresolved contracts who are expected to be released this summer is the England defender, who has endured numerous seasons at the club hampered by injuries.

Due to a knee issue, Jones, a former England international, has only started two games in the last three years. The 31-year-old has also spent the whole season not working out with the first team at Carrington.

Due to injuries and poor performance, Jones' recent career has been severely affected. The former England international with 27 caps has recently come to be mocked.

Jones, though, was once thought to be the star of English football in the future. Even Ferguson, one of the most prestigious figures in the sport, praised the player after United and he won their last Premier League championship in May 2013.

After joining Old Trafford in 2011 for about £16.5 million from Blackburn, Jones had an explosive first season.

He quickly made his way into the England side and won the Premier League in his second season with United, only for his career to be completely wrecked.
