Ilkay Gundogan, the captain of Manchester City, is a target for Arsenal this summer, and Mikel Arteta is the motivation for their pursuit.

When Arteta served as Pep Guardiola's right-hand man at the Etihad Stadium, they collaborated on projects together.

The German is wanted by Arsenal's manager to take Granit Xhaka's spot at the Emirates Stadium.

According to reports, a £13 million agreement between Arsenal and Bayern Leverkusen for the Swiss midfielder are close to being finalized.

According to information, Gundogan's contract with City ends at the end of this year, thus other teams are keeping an eye on the issue.

Barcelona is one of the teams still in the running to sign the 32-year-old this summer, and they are one of the interested parties.

Manchester City, on the other hand, is hoping to persuade Gundogan to remain in Manchester.

Gundogan was pleased to hear it from his old coach after telling L'Equipe since he obviously respects Arteta.

"I really like this quote, I often use it to describe my game. It's important to have a clear idea of how you can help your teammates or not.

"I have never been selfish and never will be. Often we focus too much on the players who finish the actions, not on those who initiated them, or those who lay the foundations of the game."
