Since Manchester City defeated Manchester United in the FA Cup final, Arsenal will now be formally participating in the Community Shield sometime this summer.
According to information obtained, the FA Cup winners and the Premier League champions from the previous season often meet in the matchup one week before to the start of the Premier League season. The club who placed second in the league will participate, nevertheless, if the same team wins in both games.
Manchester City won the league title last month, making it five straight seasons in which they have finished first. Ilkay Gundogan's brace helped Pep Guardiola's team upset local rivals United 2-1 in the cup final on Saturday.
Arsenal will play the Citizens in the Community Shield in August since they were second in the league this year.
The last time the Gunners won the Wembley championship was in 2020 when they defeated Liverpool on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
But in recent years, Mikel Arteta's team has struggled versus City, lost 15 of their past 16 games.
