On a historic night for the striker who became the first player to achieve 200 international appearances, Cristiano Ronaldo scored an incredible late goal as Portugal defeated Iceland 1-0 on Tuesday to extend their flawless record in Euro 2024 qualification Group J.

During Portugal's Euro 2024 qualifying match against Liechtenstein in March, Ronaldo surpassed Kuwait's Bader Al-Mutawaas, who had previously held the record with 196 appearances.

After Willum Thor Willumsson was dismissed for receiving a second yellow card for a hard foul on substitute Goncalo Inacio in the 81st minute, Portugal increased the pressure on Iceland.
After the referee initially disallowed Ronaldo's close-range effort in the 89th minute for offside, the goal was eventually awarded after a VAR video revealed he was just barely onside. Ronaldo had to wait two minutes to celebrate the victory.

With his 123rd goal for Portugal, Ronaldo surpassed Pele as the all-time leading international scorer.
