The match between Arsenal and Manchester United in front of a capacity audience of just over 80,000 people in America may have been pre-season by name, but it was definitely not pre-season by nature.
Bukayo Saka was on the receiving end of a harsh challenge by the Manchester United player in the first half while Lisandro Martinez paraded about the field as if it were a Premier League match.
While directing attention to the on-field referee to handle such problems, Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, did note that "they are here to compete, as are we," as he said in his post-match news conference.
Arsenal's first loss of the preseason, but it provides them some much-needed training as they prepare for the new season.
“They are here to compete and to win, as we are,” said Arteta. “That’s the job of the referee to stop it.”
