Former Chelsea player Gianfranco Zola expressed astonishment at the club's choice to offload players like Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic this summer.
This summer, Chelsea offloaded Mount to Manchester United and Kovacic to Manchester City.
N'Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were among the midfielders whom Chelsea sold in addition to Mount and Kovacic.
However, Zola has since acknowledged that Kovacic and Mount would both be much missed next season.
“I am surprised to have seen so many players leaving.
“I was surprised to see Mason leaving, and Kovacic leaving.
“They were very important players, not only for the quality they used to give the team but with Mason, he is one of the midfielders who could score goals.
“In my opinion they are a big miss. I don’t mention Kante because he was injured the whole season last season but the other two are very key players,” Zola told talkSPORT.
