On August 11, the Belgian international hobbled off 23 minutes into City's 3-0 Premier League triumph against Burnley.
The 32-year-old revealed on his social media accounts that he is disappointed but will recover in a few months.
Kevin de Bruyne posted, "The news after the Burnley game was a really big blow for me physically and mentally. Now the surgery is done I’m ready to heal my body and get back to work soon. Thank you all for the support."
