Louis Van Gaal, a former Dutch national team coach, said that the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was "premeditated" to support Lionel Messi and Argentina in their bid to win the competition.

In the World Cup quarterfinals, Argentina defeated the Netherlands 4-3 on penalties, with Van Gaal in charge for the third time as coach.

Messi led his country to their first World Cup title since 1986 by defeating France in the championship game's penalty shootout.

Argentina overcame France 4-2 on penalties in the championship game thanks to two goals from Messi.

The 72-year-old said that the competition was designed with the Argentine squad in mind when speaking at the Eredivisie awards on Tuesday night, according to Dutch station NOS.
