Jadon Sancho responded to Erik ten Hag's criticism of his recent training efforts with the following remark.

After being benched for Sunday's match between Manchester United and Arsenal, Jadon Sancho has issued a controversial comment.

Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus both scored twice in added time as Arsenal defeated United 3-1.

Marcus Rashford had given Erik ten Hag's team the lead early in the first half, but Martin Odegaard quickly tied the score.

When he scored with just a few minutes left, Alejandro Garnacho felt the visitors had won the match, but VAR determined the Argentine was offside.

As Rice and Jesus scored extremely late, the Red Devils lost the game 3-1 after believing they had won it.

Ten Hag, who was understandably quite dissatisfied during the game, lamented the offside ruling and said that his team should have been awarded a penalty and that Rice's goal shouldn't have stood because of a foul on Jonny Evans.

He saved a few words for Jadon Sancho as well. The Dutchman said that the reason the winger was completely cut from the team was because of poor performance in practice.

Ten Hag explains why Sancho wasn't picked against Arsenal:

"On his performance on training we didn't select him," Ten Hag said, when asked about Sancho's absence from the travelling squad. "You have to reach the level every day at Manchester United. You can make choices in the front line, so in this game he wasn't selected."

Sancho has responded in an explosive statement. On his social media, he wrote:

"Please don't believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue, I have conducted myself in training very well this week. I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won't go into, I've been a scapegoat for a long time which isn't fair! All I want to do is play football with a smile on my face and contribute to my team. I respect all decision that are made by the coaching staff, I play with fantastic players and grateful to do so which I know every week is a challenge. I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what!
