Man United eventually broke their silence on Antony's domestic violence charges on his ex-girlfriend

Manchester United has broken their silence after claims of domestic abuse leveled against Brazilian winger Antony.

On Monday night, only days after Mason Greenwood departed United on loan for Getafe as the result of a six-month club inquiry, the 23-year-old winger was cut from the Brazil team.

Gabriela Cavallin, his ex-girlfriend, said that Antony assaulted her when she was pregnant, damaged her breast implant, cut her finger on a glass, and threatened to throw her out of a moving vehicle. Antony has refuted these allegations.

In order to indicate that the club is aware of the 23-year-old's claims, United released a statement.

'Manchester United acknowledges the allegations made against Antony and notes that the Police are conducting enquiries,' a club statement read.

'Pending further information, the club will be making no further comments.

'As a club, we are taking this matter seriously, with consideration of the impact of these allegations and subsequent reporting will have on survivors of abuse.'

Antony Santos, meanwhile, has been left off the Brazil team for international duty.
