"I think Manchester City’s second goal was offside as well" - Erling Haaland says after hat-trick against Fulham

Erling Haaland acknowledges that Fulham has a legitimate reason to be upset about Manchester City's dubious second goal in their Premier League match on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium.

Haaland grabbed a hat-trick as champions City defeated the Londoners easily, 5-1, but the game's outcome was determined by a very heated incident that occurred shortly before halftime.

While Manuel Akanji was standing in an offside position when Nathan Ake headed City up 2-1, Fulham yelled angrily that Akanji tried to kick the ball as it was going by him and impeded goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

Long after VAR had determined that the goal should stand and Haaland had agreed that the visitors had a point, protests on the pitch and on the sidelines persisted.

Up until Julian Alvarez's 31st-minute goal, which Tim Ream promptly cancelled out, the game had been quite dull and there had been few opportunities.

After the break, City continued with its normal activities, with Haaland usually taking the lead. It did not linger on the tragedy.

In stoppage time, he converted brilliantly from an Alvarez ball, scored a penalty, and then turned in a cross from Sergio Gomez to secure his sixth City hat-trick.

“I think it was offside as well,” the Norwegian told beIN Sports. “I feel bad for them, I would be fuming after this as well. It must be a horrible feeling for them.”
