Chelsea disappointed in their last match before the international break as they lost to Nottingham Forest 1-0 at home. Despite having greater possession of the ball once again and producing many clear-cut opportunities, Anthony Elanga secured the three points for the opponents.
In an effort to come back into the game, Chelsea's forwards wasted numerous guilt-edged chances and were unable to put enough pressure on Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner. It indicates that the Blues have only earned four points from their first four league games under Mauricio Pochettino, with two losses tarnishing their record.
In the last three years, Chilwell and Reece James have contributed just as much in the last third as real strikers have. The two have been described as the squad's most crucial players as a result.
Gary Neville highlighted their vulnerabilities following the first-day match with Liverpool, the game that James did not complete and Chilwell left before the conclusion.
"What we've seen [on Sunday] is that Chelsea have fantastic wing-backs but they've both gone off, first game of the season," he said at the time.
"That will destroy Pochettino's plans. If you're going to play wing-backs, they have to be outstanding players of high quality, who attack like wingers and defend like full-backs, and they have that."
"But the big question mark is if those two can stay fit," Neville continued. "Those wing-backs are crucial and if they lose them the whole thing could fall apart a little."
