Aisha Yesufu Criticizes Governor Otti's ₦927M Expenditure on Food: Calls for Accountability

Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has voiced vehement criticism against Governor Alex Otti of Abia State for the reported extravagant expenditure of ₦927 million on refreshments, meals, honorarium, allowances, and welfare packages within a mere three-month period.

Yesufu, known for her outspokenness on governance issues, strongly condemned what she termed the unacceptable conventional approach to governance and called for a drastic shift towards more responsible and unconventional practices.

This scrutiny comes in the wake of the release of the Abia State budget performance report titled “Abia State Third Quarter (July – September) 2023 Budget Performance,” which brought to light the staggering spending patterns.

The report not only highlighted the governor's excessive spending but also revealed that the Deputy Governor’s office allegedly utilized N252.4 million for its operational costs within the same three-month period.

Taking to her social media platform on Monday, Aisha Yesufu expressed incredulity at the government’s reported expenditure, posting her concerns and demanding accountability from the authorities, "Business as usual can never be the way to go. It must be business unusual. Expenditure must be reduced to the barest minimum. Almost a billion on food and welfare in 3 months? @alexottiofr get organizations like @TrackaNG to help keep you on your toes and monitor your spending and what to cut down on. @Nedunaija this is not good at all."
